  • Playa, or the florida keys?

The wife is a flight attendant for Sun Country, so we can fly free, or cheap wherever sun country goes. I have a little time off coming up, and was debating between Playa, or the keys.

We've done Cancun before, and she's kind of sick of that. I know Playa is more of the same. But I like it down there.

Any of you guys been to the keys, how does it compare?

Been to both but its been a decade. I would go the keys route if you haven't been. Its the right time of year and narco terrorism isn't a concern

Seems like every decent place to stay is $250 a night. Hard to justify that. I might say screw it and wait until summer for an alaskan cruise.

Playa is out. Seems like all the reasonably priced lodging is 3 blocks off the beach.

Can't fly for free into Miami. Well we can get there free, but the flight we need to take back is booked. So that means I have to fly into F. Meyers, rent a car, and drive to the keys. 5 hours each way is a little less attractive. But i guess that lets me see florida.

If it weren't for that, I'd fly into Cancun, rent a jeep and just cruise down the coast. But it's a recipe for disaster these days. Even the cops are corrupt down there.

The keys are nice. Go to Key West just to say you've been there but I like Marathon or Islamorada better.

If you can get to Ft. Myers, go to Captiva or Sanibel Island.

Beach is a bit of a misnomer at most resorts in Playa quite rocky, not exactly an attraction to be honest. Riu has some nice all inclusive properties out there and the pool is probably much better scene than the beach anyway. Plus with a Riu resort you can stay at one and play at many so you could lounge on the beach at a different resort than you're staying at with full bar/restaurant access.

Did the Florida Keys some 3-4 years back and it was cool, but more so for the drive than Key West. Not much of a fisherman or a swimmer so I had to gorge on key lime pie to make it worthwhile LOL

Both ok choices, I'd go for Playa if all else equal.

Which Playa? I can think of about 10..
If it's Mexico, I'd say fuck it, not worth the risk, shop locally (same country at least)

Yeah, that has something to do with it.

But it's not looking like it's going to happen now. They moved me into a new sales position at work, and I am swamped. There is no one to cover for me. hell, I can't even cover for me. I don't have a clue what I'm doing, and the phone won't stop ringing. I just about walked out today. Management talked me out of it. Nevertheless, I don't think it's a good time to ask off. The VP said go ahead a couple weeks ago, but now that I'm in the role, and see how overwhelming it is, I can't imagine finding the time.

I'm going to the wild game with the owner on Thursday, maybe I'll have time to discuss it.

I spent about 3 hours last night looking at Playa destinations. Seems like everything reasonable is about 3 blocks off the beach. I looked a little farther south but nothing jumps out at me.

I would rather check out St.Martin, or Costa Rica, but I can't take a full week off, and Sun Country doesn't fly in and out of there often enough.

My daughter's friend's dad has a bunch of money, and a condo in Costa Rica. He said we could stay there anytime, but it's booked during the time we want to go. He said he's been all over the world, and there's no place he'd rather be.

I drove from Lauderdale to Key West last year around this time

Unbelievable scenic drive but if you do not have patience you will lose your marbles

PS - Key West might be the most overpriced place I have ever been to in terms of booze, food, and lodging.
