OK so I had to watch this. He waited to blitz until they got to their own 27 yard line. They almost got him and it should’ve been picked. I kept saying after reading your post they are getting so close with 4 why not send that 5th guy jeez.

Took around six minutes off the clock. Got the touchdown now up 18. Game over. Rogers did this with a patchwork Offensive line. Truly one of the greatest at reading defenses.“You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”– Marcus Aurelius

They are already in very good field goal range. With 4:08 left, the lions have one timeout, and the two minute warning, so it's not really possible to drain the clock completely, but you can get close. Any run-of-the-mill fan, knows to take the play clock down to 1 or 2 before snapping the ball, but you can see in the first series, the vikings twice snapped the ball with 10 seconds on the play clock. Kirk Cousins is a VETERAN NFL QB, there is no way he's that stupid. The vikings were forced to snap the ball once, with 2:04 on the game clock. Had they taken 4 more seconds off, on either of those other two plays, they would've gotten to the two-minute warning 1 play earlier. This would mean another 40 seconds off the clock, before you give it back to Detroit. So instead of giving Detroit 1:50 and no timeout, you could have lowered it to 1:10. Or, if you choose, you could take a knee on 3rd down, in that scenario, and take it all the way down to about 30 seconds, but only have a 1 point lead, IF you make the field goal. I don't have a problem going for the TD on 3rd down, but they should never have had 1:50 to work with, and I would argue that Kirk and Zimmer are not that stupid. They left that time on there intentionally. Now, you might argue, that the vikings have 3 timeouts left, and they do trail by 2, so there is no guarantee they'll get the lead, and may want to leave time on the clock. I'm not sure I buy that, but ok.
So now they kick off to the lions, (by the way, the vikings have missed like 6 two point conversions in a row now), and the lions have 1:50 to work with. You're not playing Tom Brady, or some other QB elite, that is likely to burn you if you blitz, you're playing Jarod Goff. The Vikings brain trust decides the best coverage, is to play off 10 yards, even 15 yards in some cases, and let Jarod dump off underneath over and over. The Lions had ZERO 3rd down conversions prior to that drive, but with our ultra soft defense, they managed to convert three 3rd downs, and one fourth down. We gave them 3 easy 10 yard outs. You're supposed to take away the sideline, and give them the middle. We didn't take away the side line, the purple played very soft, and gave them any out pattern they wanted. On a 3rd and 6, we were playing 10-15 yards off. With 12 seconds left, and the ball on the 20, the vikings corner was standing on the 5. The vikings only blitzed once, and that pass should have been intercepted. All of the other downs, they rushed 4, and sometimes THREE. Who would play Jarod Goff like that? And on the winning score, the vikings played soft again. No coach is that stupid. They intentionally let the lions score. The game is fixed.
Watch it for yourself, and ask yourself if that's the way you would run clock on offense, and if thats the way you would play defense? In my opinion, you go after them early, if they burn you deep, so be it. At least you have 3 timeouts, and enough time to go back and get a score. But if you force them to turn it over on downs, the game is over. Don't play soft, go after them. And no one would play that fcking soft on 3rd and 6, and on the 20 with 12 seconds left, and on the final play. No one.

Watched the entire play sequence makes it worse and worse. Vikings did everything they could to help the Lions down the field ala that special needs kid at the Nebraska spring football game and Goof still couldn't get it done. Finally, on the last play, they had #27 step away for the easy pass and catch touchdown. Is that why you called a timeout, Zimmy? I wish Goof would have missed so we would have gotten the defensive holding penalty to make it more obvious.Fuck you, Tiger

If you re-watch the TD, there was actually OPI. The vikings line up with 5 guys on the goal line, and 3 back in the end zone, and play zone (which is stupid, if you're only going to rush 3, and give Jarod all the time he wants). The inside receiver goes directly at the 2nd defender in, who has position, and drives him off the goal line. It's the only defensive player that would have a chance to step in front of the curl. He's making contact before the ball is caught. That's offensive pass interference, but doesn't get called."If life throws you curve balls, sit on it, and put it in the 2nd deck"..... yeah, well, that's nice, but I could never hit a damn curve ball.

It's funny, when you compare the vikings defense on the last drive against the lions, and the defense they were playing the first half against the steelers. Against the steelers, the vikings were putting 7 or 8 on the line, and disguising whose blitzing on nearly every play. Yet against the lions on the last drive, they played so vanilla I'd swear it was an all star game."If life throws you curve balls, sit on it, and put it in the 2nd deck"..... yeah, well, that's nice, but I could never hit a damn curve ball.

The most effective and devastating weapon in the 2 minute defense is putting pressure on the quarterback. Sack especially when no timeouts knocks out the full 40 seconds and puts the offense on tilt. Yet you routinely cee only 3 rushers and soft zone which is exactly what I'd want if I am the offensive coordinator. Can Hank Stram matriculate your way down the field.Fuck you, Tiger
